Robert E. Hargis, 96, of Marshall, IL passed away Wednesday evening, Feb. 5, 2025 at his home surrounded by family. He was born August 23, 1928 at Marshall, IL, the son of Joseph and Bonnie Waller Hargis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Bessie Weaver, Juanita Wernz, Fred Hargis, Elbia Hargis, Glen Hargis, Roy Hargis and joseph Hargis. Surviving is his wife of 72 years, Irma Switzer Hargis, a son, Terry Hargis; a daughter, Debbie (Bubby) Darr; grandkids, Bill Darr, Sarah Sweet, Jesse Hargis and Jordan Hargis; great grandkids, Chase Darr, Grady Darr and Cameron Scott and a great great grandchild, Beckham Darr. He started working on the farm at an early age and he left the farm to work for the railroad. Following that he worked at the Paris Shoe Factor at Paris and retired from there at their closing. Following retirement, he was employed by George Tally and Charlie Eledge. In 1976 he and his wife purchased and operated the Long Horn Resturant in Martinsville, IL until they sold it. In 1978 he and his wife purchase Rainbow Village in Marshall and were still operating it. Always being remembered for his politeness and kindness to others he was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. Services in honor of his life will be 2:00 PM Sunday, February 9th at Pearce Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Dunlap Cemetery, rural Dennison, IL. Visitation will be 11:00 AM until service time Sunday at the funeral home. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Dunlap Cemetery Association.
