Ronald Lee Kiger, 81, of Terre Haute, IN, formerly of Marshall, IL, passed away in The Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care on July 15, 2023. Ronald was born in Terre Haute, IN on February 23, 1942 to Geneva Ruth (Wilson) Kiger and Donald Willis Kiger. He graduated from Wiley High School in 1960. Ronald was raised with his cousins Roger and Brent Allen and Donnie Wayne Kiger, who became his brothers. Katherine Jean West married Ronald on July 19, 1962. Together they had two children, Veronica (Tim) Shumaker and Brian (Amy) Kiger. Ronald retired from GTE in 1990 then spent many years after working part-time in different local parks. He gave 24 years of his life to the United States Military; 16 years in the Marine Corps and 8 years to the Amry Reserve. Ronald was a member of the American Legion Post 90 and was a life member with the Veterans of Foreign War Post 5975. He loved his country almost as much as he loved his grandkids. His grandkids were the apple of his eye. Stephanie (Don) Dicus, Ryan (Amanda) Shumaker, Trice Shumaker, Gavin Kiger, Kennedy Kiger, Veronica Kiger and Grant Kiger. Included in this are his great-grandchildren: Haylee Dicus, Alyssa Dicus, Emma Dicus, Hunter Shumaker, Rosalie Shumaker and Violet Shumaker. He is proceeded in death by his grandchild Courtney Jean Shumaker and great-grandchild Elle Marie Shumaker. Ronald also leaves behind his best friend of 70 years, Ben Poe, along with Carl "Mackey" Sullivan who proceeded him in death. Memorial services with military rites will be 3:00 PM (Central) Sunday, July 23rd at Pearce Funeral Home in Marshall. Visitation will be 1:00 PM until service time.
