Rosalie Mae (Giannetti) Shade went to be with the Lord after a brief illness on April 18, 2021 in Eden, North Carolina. She was one of four children born to John and Mary Giannetti in Chicago, Illinois. Rosalie began life as a first generation American of Sicilian parents. She was raised in a tradtional Italian-American household with hardworking parents, Roman Catholic faith, parochial school education, outstanding cooking, and the family at the center of life. Though her family did not have much money or influence, Rosalie was taught values that would serve her well throughout her life. Upon completion of high school, Rosalie went to work for a large, State Street department store in the heart of the Chicago Loop. She loved art and fashion and the life of the big city. Attractive and possessing a sparkling personality, the Big Band era was made for her and Rosalie loved to dance with friends. As the war years wound down, Rosalie met the love of her life, Robert Shade, who was stationed at Navy Pier at the time. The story goes that Robert went in to her store to purchase Old Spice after shave lotion but came out with the lotion and a date with Rosalie. With the conclusion of the war, Rosalie and Robert married in 1948 and headed east to West Chester, Pennsylvania to seek fame and fortune in the automobile business. With the help of a brother, Robert took over a Nash car dealership and business was good. Rosalie lived the American dream in the 1950’s in West Chester, building a spacious ranch home, giving birth to two healthy sons, serving as a school volunteer, selling Avon, and of course, driving a new Nash every year. Relocating in the early 60’s to Elmhurst, Illinois, Rosalie and her family began a new chapter of life. Robert took a position in technical sales and the family made an easy adjustment to suburban life. Rosalie remained active in school and community volunteering and perfected her homemaking skills in decorating, cooking, and hospitality. As their children grew and left home, Rosalie and Robert transitioned to a steady but slower pace. As Robert continued his career, they were fortunate enough to travel, visit friends and family across the country, volunteer endless hours at the American Legion, and tenderly care for their elderly parents. With her husband Robert’s passing in 2010, Rosalie left Elmhurst to live in Greensboro, North Carolina near her oldest son, Robert John Shade. The remainder of her life was quietly spent reading, watch favorite TV shows, attending chapel services, making new friends, and keeping in contact with her children and grandchildren. Rosalie was blessed with a beautiful setting to live in at the Carolina Estates where she was assisted by loving caretakers. Rosalie is survived by her two sisters, Mary Miller (Chicago, IL), Lucille McGucken (San Diego, CA), brother John Giannetti (Gurnee, IL), sons, Robert John Shade (Greensboro, NC), Ronald Dean Shade (Kerrville, TX), five grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. Rosalie will be buried next to her husband Robert in the Auburn Cemetery near Marshall, Illinois. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 1:30 pm. A family celebration of Rosalie’s life will be planned for a later date. Condolences may be sent to pearcefuneralservices.com.
