Rose Guinnip, 92, of Marshall, Illinois passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at her home in Marshall. Rose was born March 24, 1932 on her family farm near Marshall, in upper Wabash Township, Clark County, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Edward, her parents Charles Patrick Curran and Clara Marie Grable, a brother James Curran and two sisters, Margaret O’Loughlin and Louise Irwin. She is survived by five children, Donald (Susan), Sallie, Susan (Mars Harlan), David (Robyn) and Daniel (Cynthia). She is also survived by a sister, Carol Sullivan. Rose leaves behind 13 grandchildren, Molly Wedding, Andrew Guinnip, Susan R. Luke, Jeff Smith, Anne Sheehy, Kate Shaffer, Margaret Steward, Kelli Clark, Christopher Duvall, Ashley Fisher, Anthony Guinnip, Margaret Guinnip and Maria Guinnip and 14 great grandchildren. Rose grew up in rural Marshall and graduated from Marshall High School. She married Robert Guinnip at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on June 3, 1950, Monsignor Michael Donohue officiating. Rose and Bob made their home on the farm of his parents, Arthur and Mattie Guinnip, north of Marshall. There they raised their family. Rose was first of all a mother and farmer’s wife. No family or farm tasks were beyond her realm. She found time to invest in her family’s activities and was active in PTA, room mother’s, Girl Scout leader, Catholic youth group, 4-H Leader, youth sports supporter, Marshall Swim Team. As her children matured, Rose enjoyed playing cards (especially bridge), playing golf, boating and other water sports. She always had time for the community - Marshall Women’s Club, American Legion Auxiliary, the Wabash Valley Association, Clark County Republicans and Terre Haute Bell Choir. She bowled in the Marshall Women’s Tuesday morning bowling league for Martin’s Bitter Pills for over 20 years. As retirement approached, she and Bob enjoyed spending more time at Kentucky Lake and wintering in Florida. Rose was always proud of her Irish Catholic heritage. She was instrumental in organizing several multi-generation Curran reunions as well as traveling to Ireland to reconnect with the Old Country. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM Monday from St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marshall. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be 3-6 PM Sunday at Pearce Funeral Home with a Rosary recited at 6:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Clark County 4-H Foundation or to St. Mary’s Cemetery.
