Ruth Ann Bennet, 78, of Marshall, IL passed away Sunday, November 26, 2017 at her home. Ann was a graduate of Centralia Junior College and received her undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois. She received her Master’s Degree from Indiana State University. She taught for several years in the Marshall School District prior to her retirement. She was born August 11, 1939 in Harrisburg, IL, the daughter of Harry and Mildred Warden Hurst. On February 23, 1963, she married Harley E. Bennet in Centralia, IL. Surviving are her husband, Harley; two daughters, Laura (Greg) Irwin of Westville, IL and Rachel (Bruce) Gubbins of Charleston, IL; a son, Dr. Joseph Bennet of Seattle, WA; grandchildren, Olivia Bennet, Maxwell and Sam Gubbins, Eric Hutson and Katherine Weathers; a sister, Mary Frances Cooksey and three brothers, Donald Warden Hurst, Harry Stephen Hurst and James Michael Hurst. Preceding her death, in addition to her parents, were two grandchildren, Sophie Gubbins and Daniel Hutson. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Marshall where she was the pianist, sang with the choir and was the accompanist for the Women of Note. She was also the pianist for many individuals, groups and weddings. She was very involved in civic activities, being a member of Marshall Main Street, Delta Kappa Gamma, the Donut Library Board, Friends of the Library, the Antique Club, and many other organizations, including serving on the board of the Clark County Historical Society. She was a Golden Apple judge and a Diana Award recipient. A time of gathering and sharing of memories will be held on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018 from 1-3 PM in the Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church, 702 Plum St., Marshall, IL.
