Our beloved Ruth Jeannette Thompson, 72, originally of Monticello IN, went to be reunited with family and friends in heaven on Monday February 17, 2025 in Dennison IL. She was born on November 13, 1952 in Monticello, IN to Charles and Harmony J (Ball) Applegate. Ruth was a 1971 graduate of Twin Lakes High School. Ruth married the love of her life, Harvey Thompson on November 23, 1975 and raised their family in Idaville IN. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and will be forever missed by Tammy Owens (Larry) of Paradise TX, Jason Thompson of Monticello IN, Amanda Thompson-Cassidy (Kevin) of Aurora IN and her many grandchildren. She is survived by her siblings Julia Donahue of Kokomo IN, Melba Nickerson of Reston VA, Wayne Applegate of South Bend IN, and Ed Applegate of Reynolds IN. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Joseph, Jim, and David Applegate, daughter-in-law Stephanie Thompson and granddaughter Mya Thompson. Ruth retired from Indiana State University, where she worked as an Administrative Assistant. Her love for creating doll clothes and clothing for her grandkids, inspired her to open Gammy’s Creations Etsy Shop, where she shared her passion for sewing doll clothes, accessories, and kitchen textiles. Her crocheted and hand-sewn items have been shared and enjoyed around the world. Ruth lived a full life and was very active and vibrant, enjoying the outdoors hiking, cycling, gardening, horseback riding, and motorcycling with Harvey. She competed and won in many Trail Horse competitions on her beloved horse Schooner. She treasured her grandchildren, family gatherings, and card games; we can hear her now as she yells her final “Peanuts!”, followed by her loud cackle-laugh! Outpouring of love and support has been overwhelming and the family kindly requests withholding flowers . The family is planning a private and intimate celebration of life with immediate family, in lieu of funeral services. Online condolences are being accepted at pearcefuneralservices.com.
