Shirley J. Buckner, 87, of Paris, IL passed away 3:46 PM Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2024 in the emergency room of Union Hospital at Terre Haute, IN. On Nov. 29, 1936 she was born in Lawrence Co., IL, the daughter of James and Snotha Ernest Crouch. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Carol Crawford, Aleta Crouch and Sandra Smith; a brother, Francis Crouch; a grandson, Kenny Patterson; a son-in-law, Mike Myles and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Betty and Leland Buckner. Surviving are her husband, John “JB” Buckner; five children, Deborah Myles of Martinsville, IL, Mike (Pauline Piehl) Patterson of Martinsville, IL, Dena (Rob) Porter of Marshall, IL, Teri (Alan) Winemiller of Vincennes, IN and Twila (Tim) Fears of Terre Haute, IN; a step-son, Randy Buckner of Texas; two sisters, JoAnn Gaither of Robinson, IL and Judy (Gerry) Shank of Lawrenceville, IL; two brothers-in-law, Ronnie Crawford of Lawrenceville, IL and Jerry Smith of Oblong, IL; several grand, great and great great grandchildren. Shirley was active in the Clark Co. Post #90 and VFW Post #5975 Auxiliaries and was a member of the Clarksville Birthday Club. A graduate of Lawrenceville High School, she loved fishing, mushroom hunting, gardening, jig saw puzzles and mowing. She enjoyed playing rummy, but most importantly she loved being with her family and friends. Services in honor of her life will be 10:00 AM Monday at Pearce Funeral Home with Bob Miller and Uncle Ronnie Crawford officiating. Burial will be in the Green Moss Cemetery, rural Clark County, IL. Visitation will be 3-6 PM Sunday at the funeral home with an American Legion Auxiliary Service at 6:00 PM.
