Stacey L. Speros, 55, of Marshall, IL, passed away at 10:57 AM Monday, June 10, 2024, in University Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. He retired from the Marshall Police Department after 22 years of service and served with the Marshall Fire Department for 17 years. Stacey was born Nov. 12, 1968, in Terre Haute, IN, the son of Samuel Speros, Jr. and Betty DeMumbrum Speros. On Oct. 10, 2010, he married Rebecca L. Slaughter in Gatlinburg, TN, and she survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Jessie (Kaleb) Brandenburg, and a son, Clayton Speros of Marshall; a step-son, Rowan “Fox” Angus of Marshall; grandchildren, Quade Speros, Gannon Brandenburg, Jaxton Brandenburg, and Brenton Speros; his mother, Betty Speros of Marshall; siblings, Teri (Rod) Marquardt of Simpsonville, SC, Travis (Teresa) Speros of Marshall and Tracy (Kyle) Harbour of Spring Hill, KS; several cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father. Before his retirement, Stacey served as a patrolman for the City of Marshall, and towards the end of his career, he was the Marshall High School Resource Officer. He was a graduate of Marshall High School and graduated from the Police Training Institute at Champaign prior to his career in law enforcement. Stacey was involved with the Shop With A Cop Program through the Clark County Police Association, was a M.A.Y.N. Mentor, Class of 2024 Sr. Supporter, member of the Marshall Christmas Committee, and had formerly been a Little League Coach. One of his proudest accomplishments was forming the Marshall Cancer Support Group. Stacey was a devoted father, husband, and Poppy to his 4 grandchildren. He had a passion for sweet rides and, in the past few years, had restored an ’89 Jeep Grand Wagoneer, which won him several awards at car and Jeep shows. Stacey was very proud to have been asked to display his wagon at the Smoky Mountain Jeep Invasion in 2022. His daughter and grandkids truly cherished their regular ‘lunch dates.’ He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and enjoyed watching his sons and grandsons play ball. Stacey also enjoyed working on his home and yard and is responsible for most of the renovations and additions – with the help of some very good friends and family. He loved fishing with his grandsons, hiking, kayaking, and traveling with his wife. Stacey had a large group of friends who loved him dearly and considered themselves his ‘rocks’ after his cancer diagnosis. He grew to love horror movies and even attended horror movie conventions with his wife and her siblings, creating and wearing some very memorable costumes through the years. Stacey was always down for a good time, and will be remembered for his sweet smile, his calm demeanor, his love for his family and friends, and his unmatched zest for life. Visitation will be 4--8 PM Friday at New Rivers Church, 306 Archer Ave., Marshall, with services in honor of his life at 11:00 AM Saturday at the church with Pastor Joey Harryman officiating. Cremation will follow services with burial in the Marshall Cemetery at a later date. For those desiring, it is requested that memorial contributions be directed to the organization he was so proud of, the Marshall Cancer Support Group. The family requests that mourners wear Cardinal or Jeep gear to the visitation if able. Online condolences are being accepted at pearcefuneralservices.com.
