Stephen McClean Beltz, 64, of Charleston, IL passed away 5:56 PM Saturday, March 29, 2014 in Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center at Mattoon, IL following a brief illness of cancer. He was the retired office manager of the Charleston Stone Company at Charleston, IL, Qualitly Lime Co. of Marshall and Farrier Concrete of Charleston, IL. He was born April 13, 1949 at Terre Haute, IN, the son of Claude McClean "Mac" Beltz and Rosemary Weger Beltz. He married Georgia Pearce on Aug. 2, 1985 in Missouri. Surviving are his loving wife and friend, Georgia; a son, Marty Beltz of Pinckneyville, IL; a step son, Stephen (Joetta) Pinnell of Kansas, IL; grandchildren Martin Garza and his special friend, Courtney of Charleston, IL, Whitney Pinnell and special friend Matt of Mattoon, IL and Trenton Pearce Pinnell of Kansas, IL; two sisters, Deanna (Coy) Harmon of Goodyear, AZ and Trudy (J.R.) Newton of Terre Haute, IN and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother. He was a member of the Charleston Moose, Mattoon Eagles and Charleston Elks and was a 1967 graduate of Marshall High School Steve loved singing karaoke and writing songs and poems. He enjoyed classic cars and playing chess, cards and shooting pool. He truly loved spending time with his family, grandchildren and friends. Services in honor of his life will be 11:00 AM Thursday at Pearce Funeral Home in Marshall with Pastor Judy Williams officiating. Burial will be in the Dunlap Cemetery, rural Dennison. Visitation will be 4-8 PM Wednesday and prior to services at the funeral home on Thursday. Pallbearers will be Jack Barnhart, Jay Szabo, Travis Speros, Lee Newton, Jerod Newton and Martin R. Garza. Honorary pallbearers will be Toby Franklin, Bud Wendell and Larry Schumar. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Dunlap United Methodist Church.
