William D. George, 85, of New Lenox, IL passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2022. Bill was born in Joliet to the late James G. and Verna Meadmore George. He married Mary Rackhaus on August 7, 1971 at Trinity United Methodist Church at Marshall, IL. He is survived by his wife Mary; a brother-in-law, Joe (Cecelia) Rackhaus; nephews and nieces David (Jacqueline) George, Kathleen (Raymond Scholtes, James (Lyka) George, Gracie (William) Weiss, Sara (Darien) Lugo, Melissa (Jeff) Danbom, Brian (Shawna) Moran, Shawn (Cassie) Rackhaus and Ashley (Devin) White; great nieces and nephews, Lisa Harmon, Adam George, Michael George, Kelli Lawrence, Barbara Jones, Julie Scholtes and Angela Dahl. Bill was an educator in the area for 34 years, teaching 6th to 8th grades at Green Garden School District and Frankfort School District. He was a life-long member of the Episcopal Church at Christ Church, Joliet, St. Edward the Martyr, Joliet, and Grace Episcopal Church, New Lenox. Bill spent many years serving as the early service acolyte at Christ Church. Bill and Mary spent every summer traveling to Civil War Historical Sites. The Civil War was his passion. He walked many of the battlefields and always searched area where Joliet regiments were engage in battle. He also searched battlefield’s where the Kentucky 8th were engaged. His wife’s great-grandfather was a member of the Kentucky 8th. Bill was fun loving. He was a fan of The Three Stooges and Laurel and Hardy. He and his nephew often joked, repeating lines to each other. He was also an avid Blackhawks, Cubs and Bears fan, spending many Sundays watching games with his nephew and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial in Bills name to Grace Episcopal Church or Lightways Hospice would be appreciated. Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, August 6th at Marshall Cemetery.
