William F. Meehling, 96, of Marshall, IL passed away at 5:29 AM Sunday August 4, 2019 at Marshall Rehabilitaion and Nursing. He was born April 30, 1923, the first child of Frank N. and Lorene Waller Meehling. He married Katherine Scholfield on Oct. 27, 1951. Survivors include his wife, Katherine; a daughter, Melinda A. Meehling; two sons, Thomas W. Meehling and William D. Meehling; grandchildren, Nathan, Nicole and Madeline Meehling; nieces and nephews, Marjann Shawler, David Shawler, Donald Shawler, Kathy Hinkle, Beth Scholfield, Karen Scholfield, Michael Millhouse and John Millhouse He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Rev. Donald J. Meehling; a sister, Virginia R. Shawler and a brother-in-law, Omer T. Shawler. He served during WW II in the U.S. Philippine Islands and Japan. His undergraduate and graduate education were at the University of Illinois. He practiced law for over 60 years. Bill was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post #90, VFW Post #5975, Swope Art Museum and University of Illinois President’s Council. He was also a Life Fellow of Illinois Bar Foundation and a Rotary Foundation Fellow. He was a member of Marshall Rotary Club for over 40 years, a member emeritus of Union Hospital Board of Directors and Union Hospital Foundation, former member of First National Bank of Marshall Board of Directors and a continuing member of the Advisory Board of the Marshall branch of First Financial Bank. His special interests included boating, fishing, hiking, golf and more golf. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Monday, August 12th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marshall. Burial with military graveside rites will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be 3:00 to 6:00 PM Sunday at Pearce Funeral Home.
