William Finkbiner Buehler, 93, of Downs, IL, formerly of Marshall, IL, passed away Thursday, Feb. 18, 2016 in the McLean County Nursing Home at Bloomington, IL.
He was retired from the Bolingbrook Community School District. He was born March 20, 1922 at Marshall, IL, the son of William Buehler and Grace Finkbiner Buehler. He married Frances Nelson and she preceded him in death.
Surviving are his children, Shaunna (Matt) Lucas of Bloomington, IL, Sheila (Gary) Macon of St. Charles, MO, Sam Adams of Fenton, MO and Shirlee (Jeff) Paitson of Green Valley, AZ; his grandchildren, Taylor Lucas, Brooke Lucas, Rashell Lucas, Kyle Macon, Carrie Bishop, Cody Adams, Samantha Adams, Chris Paitson, Lori Paitson and Adam Paitson and 9 great grandchildren.
He served this nation in the US Marines during WW II and was a recipient of the Purple Heart from injuries received in the Battle of Wake Island. During his time in the military he was a POW for nearly 4 years. Bill loved to attend U of I football games and was inducted into the Semi-Pro Hall of Fame in Canton, OH as a Super Fan. He was a dog lover through and through.
Services in honor of his life will be 1:00 PM Tuesday at the Zion United Methodist Church, rural Marshall. Burial with military graveside rites will be immediately following services in the church cemetery. Online condolences are being accepted at pearcefuneralservices.com.
