Barbara J. Laufman Becker was born July 14, 1941 and departed this life on July 1, 2024 in Terre Haute, IN. She was born, the daughter of Christine Wallace Laufman and Fred Laufman in Macon, GA. Barbara graduated from Marshall High School and attended college in Illinois and Indiana. She lived in multiple states over the years for her job as a system analyst for the IBM Corporation. She moved back to this area about 15 years ago, settling in Riley, IN to be closer to her special nephew and his wife, Kevin and Pamela Lewis, who would look after her in her last years. Barbara loved to travel and visit different countries. Her favorite memories are of the time she spent in West Africa as a member of the United States Peace Corps, where she served as Executive Secretary to the Director Ivory Coast, West Africa. Her life-long love were her pets. She as an animal activist rescued animals, sometimes providing healthcare and a good home for those nearing the end of life. Survivors include her half-sister, Allana (Tim) Duke; several nieces and nephews, including her “adopted” niece Lori. Barbara was preceded in death by her father, Fred Laufman; mother Christine Laufman Doll; sister, Nancy Laufman Smith and half-brother, Frank Doll II. A gathering for time for the sharing of memories will begin at 4:00 PM Central, Saturday, July 13th. at Pearce Funeral Home of Marshall, IL with friends and family being received until 5:00 PM with the interment of her ashes following at Marshall Cemetery next to her father and sister.
