Carolyn Mae Flowers, 73, of Marshall, IL passed away 4:29 PM Thursday, January 30, 2014 in Burnsides Community Care Center at Marshall. She was a retired registered nurse. She was born April 19, 1940 at Paris, IL, the daughter of Robert H. and Frances Beckel Flowers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her only brother, Owen E. Flowers and a grandson, Robbie Parker. Surviving are two daughters, Sharie J. Cline and Jeanie L. Kelly both of Marshall; grandchildren, Bethany Kile, Justin Kile, Jordan Hargis and Nicholas Cline; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Flowers; two nephews, David Flowers and Dan Flowers and several cousins. She was a 1958 graduate of Marshall High School. She became an LPN in 1969 and worked that position until she received her RN degree from SIU Edwardsville in 1982. She was an excellent nurse and devoted herself to caring for others. After her retirement she continued to care for others in their home setting until she became ill and was unable to work. During her high school years she was a Marshallette and cheerleader and was selected to Girls State. During her high school years she also established many close friendships with classmates. She was involved in the KST Sorority for 28 years which was a sorority devoted to giving nursing scholarships. Services in honor of her life will be 7:00 PM Monday at Pearce Funeral Home with Rev. David Deal officiating. Visitation will be 3:00 PM until service time Monday at the funeral home.
