Donald G. Veach, 93, of Marshall, IL, formerly of Martinsville, IL passed away 10:40 AM Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017 in Casey Health Care Center at Casey, IL. He was a retired truck driver and a member of the teamsters. Don was born Feb. 9, 1924 in Clark Co., IL, the son of Obe and Sarah Hurst Veach. He married Shirley Misner on Aug. 26, 1949 at Henderson, KY and she preceded him in death on May 1, 1972. Surviving are a daughter, Lynn (Les) Romines of Mt. Zion, IL; a son, David Veach of Sullivan, IL; two granddaughters Lindsey Evans and her husband, Mike Varlotta of Springfield, IL and Brittany Evans and her fiancée’, Kevin Kebbe of St. Louis, MO; three great grandchildren, Olivia Evans, Gabriel Varlotta and Everley Belle Varlotta; a girl he thought of as a granddaughter, Renee Goldsberry and a special friend, Tom Hardway. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Edward Veach and a sister, Fern L. Pearce. He served this county during WW II in the European and African Theaters. He attained the rank of Sgt. in the US Army. He was a member of Clark Lodge #603 at Martinsville and was a member of the American Legion of Martinsville and served on the Martinsville Ag Fair Board for many years and was an honorary member of that board. He was a graduate of Marshall High School. Services in honor of his life will be 1:30 PM Sunday at Pearce Funeral Home with his nephews Ed and Jeff Pearce conducting the services. Rev. Debra Veach will officiate. Burial will be in the Ridgelawn Cemetery at Martinsville with military graveside rites. Visitation will be 3-7 PM Saturday with Masonic Rites at 7:00 PM.
