Donald F. Abel, 94, of Marshall, IL passed away 10:30 PM Thursday, Jan 7, 2016 in Union Hospital at Terre Haute, IN.

A loving husband, father and grandfather, he was a retired Clark Co. farmer and had owned and operated elevators in Marshall and Paris. Don was born Aug. 31, 1921 in rural Marshall, IL, the son of Frederick and Marie Schaefer Abel.

He married Betty Simpson Abel on Sept. 27, 1942 and she preceded him in death on Oct. 1, 2002. Surviving are his children, Pamela (Rodney) Overpeck of Kingman, IN, Donna Gerhardt of Springfield, IL, Michael (Mary Ann) Abel of Atlanta, IL and Anita (Gary) Heard of Aledo, IL; a sister, Rosemarie Stoelting of Springfield, IL; grandchildren, Arnold Overpeck, Rodger Overpeck, Julie DelReal, Coy Overpeck, Gretchen Gerhardt, Gustave Gerhardt, Gabrielle Miller, Heather Tabor, Bonnie Rooney, Matthew Heard and Emily Heard; 12 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A brother, Raymond "Bud" Abel preceded him in death.

He served this nation in the Army Air Corps during WW II. He was a faithful member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday school superintendent and a Sunday school teacher for many years. He was a member of Clark Co. Post #90 of the American Legion. He served as a Director of Marshall Mutual Insurance Co. for over 50 years.

Services in honor of his life will be 10:30 AM Monday at Pearce Funeral Home in Marshall with Rev. Melly Momo officiating. Burial will be in the Marshall Cemetery with military graveside rites.
