Donald W. Kane, 66, of Marshall, IL died Sunday, August 7, 2016, surrounded by family and loved ones.
Don was born March 3, 1950, in Chicago, IL, the son of the late Robert Kane, Sr., and Madelaine (Kohler) Kane. Don graduated from St. George High School, Chicago, in 1968, and attended Western Illinois University. Don was a devoted and respected member of Alcoholics Anonymous for over 32 years, working tirelessly to help others achieve sobriety. He served on the Board of Directors for Club Gobi, Terre Haute, IN, for several years. Don was an avid golfer and enjoyed the links whenever he could with family and friends.
On December 31, 2009, Don married Anne Pfeiffer, who survives. Don is survived by children Valarie Karas and husband Scott, Kenosha, WI; John Kane, Milwaukee, WI; Corin Herrera, Chicago, IL; and Julie Pfeiffer Parks and husband Jeremy, Marion, IL. He is also survived by grandchildren Devin, Adam and Sara Torres, and Cade and Cooper Parks, along with many nieces and nephews. Also surviving is his beloved dog, Teagan, who was by his side throughout his illness.
Don was one of nine siblings, six of whom survive: Kathleen Weber-Gaddi and husband Robert, San Diego, CA; Robert Kane Jr. and wife Jamie of Punta Gorda, FL; Patricia Schiro, Lake Zurich, IL; James Kane and wife Mary, Arlington Heights, IL; Daniel Kane and wife Julie, Hastings, MN: and Peggy Fink and husband Daniel, Long Grove, IL. He was preceded in death by his sister Marilyn Garrity and brother Richard Kane.
On September 29, 1989, Don married Teresa Gill. He gladly adopted and became father to her children, Valarie and John. Tess preceded Don in death in 2007.
Services will be held at Pearce Funeral Home, Marshall, IL, on Saturday, August 13. Visitation will be from 1-3 PM, with a memorial service at 3 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the TKR Memorial, 12090 E 1900 Road, Marshall, IL 62441. This organization provides scholarships for retreats held for those in recovery.
