Gerald Terrance “Jerry” Shinville, age 89, of Marshall, IL and formerly of Sterling, IL and Morrison, IL passed away at 12:15 AM Friday October 17, 2025at WIllowbrook Assisted living in Marshall, IL. He was born on December 2, 1935 in Chicago, IL to Ernest and Gertrude (Dobie) Shinville. He married Anna Sandoval on February 10. 1958. Gerald served as an EOD tech in the Army. He was a retired, after 35 years as a Chemical engineer and Metallurgist for Northwestern Steel and Wire in Sterling, IL. He is survived by His Wife Anna of Marshall, IL, Two daughters Susan (John) Saxton of Kansas, IL., Jacqueline (Paul) Didier of Chicago, IL., one son Padric (Karen) Shinville of Bloomington, IL, Six Grandchildren Thomas, Laura, Katie, Ian, Rachel, and Haley; Eight Great grandchildren He was preceded in death by two sons Terrance Gerald, and Michael Patrick. Gerald was a loving husband and father. He graduated from University of Illinois with a baechelors degree in chemical engineering and Metallurgy. He was a quality assurance supervisor at Northwestern steel and wire. He spoke seven languages (English, Gaelic, Latin, Spanish, French, German, and Japanese). He coached Baseball, Softball, Junior Tackle football. He was the head score keeper for the Sauk Valley College men’s Basketball team for many years. He was a devout Catholic and his faith carried him through the hardest times of his life. He shared his faith with others by teaching 5th Grade Catechism. He enjoyed the outdoors and became a Master Gardner and was a true lover of Golf. Mass of Christian burial will be held at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Marshall on Monday October 20, 2025 at 11:00 AM with Father Augustine Koomson Officiating. Graveside services will be held at Riverside Cemetery (Sacred Heart) in Sterling, IL at 1:30 PM Tuesday October 21, 2025 with Father Thomas Doyle Officiating.
