James A. Finkbiner, 69, of Amarillo, TX, formerly of Marshall, IL passed away Monday, July 16, 2012 in Amarillo, TX following a lengthy illness. He was a lover of horses and had been employed as a trainer at riding stables and was a saddle maker. He was born on Aug. 9, 1942 at Terre Haute, IN, the son of Chester Finkbiner and Alta Brock Finkbiner. Surviving are a son, James C. "Chuck" Finkbiner and his wife, Carolyn of Silverdale, WA, Laura Rockholt and her husband, Chane and Tamara Bailey of Amarillo, TX; two sisters, Linda Black and her husband Gar y and Janice Finkbiner of CA; an aunt, Ruth Sloan of Casey, IL and several cousins, including Sam Finkbiner, Amy Ladd, Anne Cooper, Ellen Harms, Jeanne Sathre, Jody Howell, Patty Harvey and Robert Sloan. He was preceded in death by his parents and a cousin, John Sloan. He was a graduate of Marshall High School and Texas State Technical Institution for Saddle and Tack. He had also been an accomplished machinist, poet and baker.. Jim was inducted in the US Navy on Aug. 7, 1960 and served his country Aug. 1, 1963. Graveside services in honor of his service to this nation will be 4:00 PM Saturday at Marshall Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by Clark Co. Post #90 of the American Legion and VFW Post #5975. Following military rites, family member will speak and share memories of Jim.
