Jim was born August 18, 1944 at Paris, IL, the son of Don and Adda Mae Guthrie Stepp.
He was preceded in his passing by his parents and a sister, Julia Ann Dorman. A beloved husband, best friend, significant other, uncle, cousin and friend to all, Jim ended his journey early Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at his home with his beloved dog Sheila on her dog pillow by his side.
Jim was a 1963 graduate of Marshall High School playing and lettering in four years of football, baseball, track, basketball and wrestling. He served on the Marshall Police Dept. shortly after graduation before making his home in Brazil, IN for ten years.
Following the mysterious death of his father, he and wife, Kay moved to Marshall where they have resided since. Jim not only played Men's Fast Pitch Softball for over 20 years, he also coached both men's and women's teams to state championships. Jim and Kay both coached women's and girls' softball teams in Marshall for a number of years.
He was a member of the 841 Operating Union for many years as a caterpillar operator as well as his Dad. Jim also sold cars for several dealerships prior to operating his own car lot for several years. Jim missed law enforcement and went through a very intense training program at the Indiana State Police Post, just a few short years ago and became a prison guard at the Putnamville Correctional Facility.
Due to health reasons, Jim retired a couple of years ago and enjoyed working around home on the tractor and mowers, having morning coffee with friends and being with his dog and family. He never knew a stranger and never passed up lending a hand. He was an avid sports fan, especially the St. Louis Cardinals.
