John E Steevens Sr., age 86, of Martinsville, IL passed away at 5:48 PM Thursday June 9, 2022 at Gibson Family Center For Hospice Care in Terre haute, IN.John was born on June 19, 1935 in Salem, IL to Edward and Darline (Finley) Steeevens. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1953. John married Donna Phillips on March 29, 1959 in Salem, IL. John retired from Country Companies after 35 years as an Insurance Agent and Agency Manager. He was well known by his customers, many of whom became good friends. He especially enjoyed the work with the many local farmers. He is survived by his wife Donna of Martinsville, IL; three children, John Steevens Jr. of Martinsville, IL, Joey (Fiancee Natasha Vernon) Steevens of Casey, IL and Melodie (Rick) Davis of Philo, IL; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren; Arika Davis and daughters Alexis, Aubrie and Ava of Philo, IL, Mitchell (Sara) Davis and son Henry of Bloomington, IL, Gabarielle Steevens of Marshall, IL, and Mariah Steevens of Terre Haute, IN; one brother Charlie Steevens of O’Fallon, MO and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers Wayne Steevens and Bill Steevens and one sister Marie Page and daughter-in-law Lori Steevens. John was a member of the Martinsville United Methodist Church where he served on the board. He was an avid golfer, bowled for the Country Companies team for many years, grilled for many local events, and loved working in his garden and watching western movies. His greatest pride was in his family.Services in honor of his life will be 12:00 Noon Friday, June 17th at the Martinsville United Methodist Church with Pastor Zolla Marty officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30 AM until service time at the church prior services. Military rites in honor of his service to this nation will follow the services at the church. Private burial be in the Bethlehem Cemetery at Salem, IL. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to either to the Martinsville United Methodist Church Building Fund or to the Bethlehem Cemetery in Salem, IL.
