John Wiley Day, 91, of Marshall, IL, formerly of Sutherlin, OR, passed away on February 9, 2014 in Union Hospital at Terre Haute, IN. John was born on August 24, 1922 to Wiley Day ad Mae Cooper Day at Lubbock, TX. He married Melva Mazza on September 20, 1965. He had one brother, Sanford and two sisters, Valentine and Georgia; two sons, Edward Mazza and Fred Mazza and two daughters, Nancy Norman and Judy Antunez. He is survived by his daughter, Judy Antunez of Marshall, IL; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Mazza of Rogue River, OR; grandchildren, Tammy DePasse, Terri (Mike) Woldahl, Kenny "Skoal" Johnson and his companion Racheal, Debbi Mazza, Robert (Trisha) Mazza, Tim (Sheri) Mazza, Rick (Jill) Mazza, Lyssa (Dick) Arnett, Randy (Rhonda) ,Natho, Frank (Pam) Natho and Mark Natho ; several great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. John was retired from the city of San Luis Obispo, CA. He moved to Sutherlin, OR where he lived for 29 years with his wife Melva, who passed away in 2005. John was an avid walker, loved to read and visited the Marshall Public Library often. His biggest passion was the weather. He kept detailed logs of the rain in California, Oregon and Illinois for more than 30 years. John was a WW II veteran who served in the Army Air Force. During his military time he served in England, France, Germany and Belgium. Graveside military rites in honor of his service to this country will be held 11:00 AM Friday at the Eagle Point National Cemetery at Eagle Point, OR.
