Jonathan Val Smith, 59, born May 1, 1963, left this earth on Ocotber 23, 2022. Val was the 6th child of Gerald and Rosa Lee Smith. He was his Momma’s baby boy and the apple of her eye. Val was born with charm and charisma. His personality was larger than life. He lived hard, played harder and loved even more. He was quite the dare devil. His childhood heroes were Huck Finn and Evel Knievel. Even though Huck was his hero, his personality was much more like Tom Sawyer and he had the story telling ability of Mark Twain. Val loved all the ladies, young and old and could charm them like no one else. Val was the fun Uncle. He was adored by his many nieces and his nephew. He was a proud Union Plasterer for Local #143 out of Champaign. He was very proud of all the buildings he plastered and being able to plaster on stilts. He was a member of ABATE, loved riding motorcycles. He was an avid fisherman. His free spiriting life style caught up with him at age 29 when he suffered a traumatic brain injury, but his legend only grew larger with time. Val joins his parents, brothers Vern and Philip, his nephew and two great nephews in heaven. Surviving him are his sisters, Lois Graffis, Twila (Wayne) Burgess, Janice (Eric) Pratt and Twon Smith; two children and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends and relatives are invited to gather at Pearce Funeral Home at 1:30 PM Saturday, Oct. 29th for procession to the Forsythe Cemetery where graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM with Pastor Joe Irwin officiating. The family is most appreciative of the services provided by the Brain Injury Association of Illinois and to all his caregivers throughout the years. For those desiring memorial contributions may be made to the Brain Injury Association Of IL, ABATE or to the family.Online condolences are being accepted at pearcefuneralservices.com.
