Lowell L. Kunce, 87, of Marshall, IL passed away 6:20 PM Sunday, Dec. 28, 2014 in the Burnsides Community Care Center at Marshall.
He became employed at Hillman Jeweler's of Terre Haute, IN in 1955 and retired in 1993 at 38 years of service. Following his employment at Hillman's he was employed at Pearce Funeral Home in Marshall for approximately 15 years. Lowell was born Dec. 18, 1927 at Waterloo, IN, the son of Rev. Eugene and Clara Elnora Kunce. On January 2, 1953 he married Betty Miller at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church with his father conducting the ceremony.
Surviving are his wife, Betty: a daughter, Clare (Lee) Beaven of Marshall, IL; a son, Kent (Lisa) Kunce of Evansville, IN; grandchildren, Lowell Beaven, Andrew Beaven, Lacey Kunce and Layne Kunce; a brother-in-law, Art (Elaine) Miller of Marshall, IL and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Maurer. He was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church and had held various positions in the church over the years. He was a graduate of the Bradley University School of Watch Making and served in the US Navy for four years and was a veteran of the Korean War and was a member of Marshall VFW Post #5975. He was one of the organizers of the Marshall Food and Clothing Bank, enjoyed attending local sporting events and hunting and fishing.
Services in honor of his life will be 10:00 AM Wednesday at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael Wooton officiating. Burial will be in the Marshall Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post #5975 and Clark Co. Post #90 of the American Legion. Visitation will be 4-7 PM Tuesday at Pearce Funeral Home and also one-hour prior services at the church on Wednesday. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Emmanuel United Methodist Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
