Lucille Crow VanFleet, 99, of Marshall, IL, formerly of West Union, IL passed away 4:35 PM Wednesday, January 28, 2015 in the Burnsides Community Health Center at Marshall.
She and her husband John were lifetime grain and livestock farmers in Clark County, IL where they worked side by side throughout their marriage. Lucille was born May 4, 1915 in Crawford County, IL and daughter of Robert E. Crow and Bertha J. Guyer Crow. She married John W. VanFleet on Aug. 22, 1932 and he preceded her in death on Jan. 11, 1983.
She is survived by a daughter, Jean (Special Friend-Jack Wallace) Spittler of Marshall, IL; six grandchildren, John Lux of Rantoul, IL, Julie Mooney of Whittier, CA, Fred Lux of Portland, OR, Leslie Lux of Rantoul, IL, Tim Spittler of West Union, IL and Penny Boyer of Marshall, IL; 14 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeanette Featherston on Sept. 15, 1982; a great grandchild, Jacalynn Jo Spittler of Dec. 6, 1085 and a son-in-law, H.D. Spittler on Sept. 20, 1998.
Lucille was a collector and lover of antiques and collectables, especially lamps and doves. She was constantly attending auctions at Knowles Auction Barn in Marshall and exhibited her vegetable, sewing and stitchery items at various County Fairs while being with her husband when he was showing Holsteins. She was a member of Hello Dolly Doll Club and was a China Art Guild Painter.
Services in honor of her life will be 1:00 PM Sunday at Pearce Funeral Home in Marshall with Bro. Larry Morecraft officiating. Burial will be in the Bradbury Cemetery near West York, IL. Visitation will be 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the funeral home on Sunday. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Bradbury Cemetery Association.
