Marcelene Ruth Miller, age 92 of Marshall, Illinois passed away peacefully on September 15, 2025 at Willowbrook Memory Support of Marshall. Marcelene (Marcee) was born July 1, 1933 at the family home near Carlisle, Indiana to William Chester and Maggie Mae Rippy Feltner. As a young girl, she and her family made frequent moves to various farms in Indiana. Even though she had many chores growing up on the farm, Marcee and her two sisters, Virginia and Melba found time to become quite mischievous in their play. Whether playing in the creek, the barn hay mows or climbing trees, the Feltner tomboy girls could do anything little boys could do, they just did it in dresses. Marcee graduated from Turman TWP High School in May, 1951. Upon graduation, she moved to Terre Haute, Indiana and began an administrative assistance job. In May, 1953 Marcee accepted a blind date with Leland Miller of Marshall, Illinois. At the time, Leland was stationed at the Millington Navel Base near Memphis, Tn. Marcee’s first impression was Leland was very egotistical. Six week later on July 18, 1953, Leland and Marcee were married in Hernando, MS. Marcee and Leland were married 42 years until Leland’s passing on August 4, 1995. Marcee moved to the Miller house located on the family farm south of Marshall in May 1954 while Leland finished his tour of duty overseas. Marcee and Leland built a successful farming operation over the years through hard work and dedication. Three of their four sons have continued to grow and expand the family farming business from the original 120-acre farm south of Marshall. Marcee continued to reside at their house until May, 2025 when she moved to the Willowbrook Memory Support in Marshall. Marcee took great pride that she lived in the family home for 71 years. In addition to working around the farm, running the household and raising four energetic boys, Marcee devoted a great deal of time serving her church and the Marshall community. As a member of the Marshall Baptist Church she devoted time to the AWANA program, Bible studies, played the organ and piano and coordinated various meal preparations through the church’s kitchen. Over the years, Marcee was actively involved with 4-H, the Marshall Food and Clothing Banks and was a member of the Farm Bureau Women’s Organization. Marcee was devoted to her family and was deeply committed to instilling her values and beliefs into the lives of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. When Marcee’s own boys were teenagers, she informally adopted about 6 additional teenagers into the Miller family. No one knows the exact number of pizzas, bowls of popcorn and gallons of chili soup she made for the Sunday afternoon football, swimming and sledding parties held at the Miller house but she made sure all of “her kids” were well fed. She may have been a small petite woman but she kept order in the often chaotic male dominated household. She was an excellent seamstress which was very useful for mending the boys pants and shirts caused by rough play and making dresses for the granddaughters and their many dolls. She loved her flower gardens and fish pond. She also hosted many family reunions on the farm, doing most of the cooking which she always enjoyed. Preceding her in death was her husband of 42 years, Leland Miller; her parents William and Maggie Mae Feltner; and one sister, Virginia Dean. Survivors include her four sons Bob (Pam), Rod (Teresa) and Jim (Dalanne) Miller of Marshall, Illinois and Ken (Sue) Miller of Dubuque Iowa; eight granddaughters, two grandsons; nine great grandsons and four great granddaughters. Also surviving are numerous nephews and nieces. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, September 21, 2025 at the Marshall Baptist Church and a service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 22, 2025 at the Marshall Baptist Church. Burial will take place at Zion Church Cemetery immediately following the service. A lunch will follow burial for family and friends at Marshall Baptist Church. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the caring staff at Willowbrook Memory Support who took such great care of Marcee these past few months and to Transitions Hospice for her end of life care.
