Martha Jane Bender, 89, of Marshall, IL passed away 12:30 PM Thursday, March 3, 2016 in Regional Hospital at Terre Haute, IN.

She was formerly employed as a nurses’ aid at Burnsides Community Care Center. Martha was born April 12, 1926 at Terre Haute, IN, the daughter of Russel and Edna Leek Riley. She married George Frederick Bender on April 15, 1944 at Effingham, IL and he preceded her in death on Dec. 22, 2010.

Surviving are five sons, Don Bender, Larry (Brenda) Bender, Jim (Kim) Bender, Eric (Leigh) Bender all of Marshall and Kevin (Jana Rogers) Bender of Martinsville, IL and her grandchildren, Dillon Bender, Parker Bender, Cody Bender, Paige Bender, Betsy Bender, Ally Bender, Hannah Bender, Eric Bender, Steven Bender, Sarah Bender and Gabe Bender. She was preceded in death by a son, Steve Bender; a brother, Donald Riley and a sister, Dorothy Romines.

She was a member of the First United Methodist church and American Legion Auxiliary of Clark Co. Post #90.

Public graveside services will be 1:30 PM Sunday at the Auburn Cemetery, rural Marshall with Bro. John Cutshall officiating. Visitation will be private.
