Mary E. Melcho, 92, of Marshall, IL passed away 1:45 PM Sunday, Dec. 4, 2022 in Union Hospital at Terre Haute, IN. She was born Dec. 12, 1929 at Terre Haute, IN, the daughter of Rufus and Emagean Padgett Hickenbotham. On May 29, 1950 she married Joseph Noah Melcho at Terre Haute, IN and he preceded her in death on Aug. 29, 1981. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four sons, David, Mike, Steve and Robert; three sisters, Dorothy Sullivan, Mildred Harris and Nancy Hanna and a brother, Richard Hickenbotham. Surviving are four children, Linda Hildebrand of Mattoon, IL, Dan (Marsha) Melcho of Marshall, IL, Judy (Kent) Tingley of West Union, IL and John Melcho of Marshall; a daughter-in-law, Chris Melcho; grandchildren, Karen Melcho, Stacey Keller, Elise Melcho, Dylan (Anna) Melcho, Stephanie Melcho, Jared Melcho, David (Danielle) Tingley, Jeff Tingley, Bryan Tingley, Melissa (Scott) Vest, Sara (Andrew) Larson, Kati Melcho, Kelly Melcho, Jonathon (Angelina) Melcho and Jonah Melcho; several great grandchildren and a brother, Ray (Mary) Hickenbotham. Mary was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Marshall and Home Extension. She had formerly owned and operated Melcho’s Bakery and Deli in Marshall. She enjoyed cooking, playing cards, bird watching and painting.She especially like baking and decorating cakes, but most of all, she loved being with her family. She was a very talented person in being able to do all she did for her family and others. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. Augustine Koomson officiating. Cremation will follow the service with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be 4-7 PM Friday at Pearce Funeral Home.
