Monique Lucienne Louise Carlton, 92, of Marshall, IL passed away on Oct. 29, 2022. She was born in Maizieres-les-Metz, France on March 31, 1930 to Marius Louie Veydarier and Lucienne Auburtin Veydarier. She met her husband Charles Carlton in LaRochelle, France while he was stationed at LaPallice, France. They were married in 1958 and had three children. They traveled 20 years with the U.S. Navy before settling in Marshall in 1973. She had been a member of the Marshall Women’s Club many years and had been very active in selling pecans in the fall. She loved to walk and frequently walked to the library and grocery store. She enjoyed traveling, family gatherings and planting and nurturing her flowers. She was an avid golfer, oil painter, bowler and bingo player. She also enjoyed the slot machines at different casinos. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Charley Carlton, sister Raymonde Loveless and brother Louis Veydarier. Surviving are a son, Bob (Brenda) Carlton of Frisco, TX; daughter, Cathy (Larry) Gmelich of Marshall, IL; grandchildren, Adam Carlton and Ashlee Carlton both of Frisco, TX; Daniel (Kelsey) Gmelich of Terre Haute, IN, eric Gmelich of Mattoon, IL; great grandchildren, Ander Carlton of Frisco, TX and Luke Gmelich of Terre Haute, IN; a brother, Jean-Claude (Annie) Veydarier of France; sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Sikes; sister-in-law, Carol Yount both of Fredericktown, MO and many nieces and nephews. Services in honor of her life will be 11:00 AM Friday at Pearce Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Duke officiating. Burial will be in the Marshall Cemetery. Visitation will be one-hour prior services.
