Norma Deane Phelps, 97, passed away on March 10, 2022. Norma Deane was born on September 19, 1924 in Detroit, Michigan to the late, Lloyd George and Velma (Hill) Spittler. Raised on a farm in Illinois, she graduated from Fairmount High School and was one of the first female students to receive a letter in sports. After graduation she attended business school in Danville. While in Danville, she worked in the shipping department office of the Rissman & Son Company that produced flak jackets in support of the WWII effort. She later went to Washington, DC to work for the government at both the Veterans Administration and the Atomic Energy Commission. While at the VA she met her husband Thomas David Phelps of Huntsville, Alabama and they were married on April 15, 1950. After a few years they moved to Silver Spring, Maryland where they raised their two children, Patricia Jean and David Lloyd. After her husband retired from government service, they moved to Titusville, Florida in 1977. Norma Deane was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Titusville and participated in their Bible Study, Christian Women and Craft groups. She was also a member of the Titusvillager Homemakers. She traveled extensively in her later years and visited over 30 countries in Europe. Norma Dean also enjoyed reading, going to the theater, completing crossword puzzles and yard work. Sewing and crocheting were among her many talents. She will be missed by her family and those that adored her presence in their lives. Norma is survived by her children, Patricia J. Phelps and David L. Phelps both of Titusville, FL and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas D. Phelps; her sisters, Betty Jane Teter and Mary Lee Nelson and her beloved parents, Lloyd G. and Velma Spittler. Visitation will be 1:00 to 2:00 PM Saturday, March 19th at Pearce Funeral Home in Marshall, IL. Graveside services will immediately follow at Marshall Cemetery with Joe Irwin officiating.
